Agriculture, Horticulture & Drip Farming
Hold irrigation and rain water in the root zone of fruit, vegetable and spice crops, and stretch the gap between waterings.
Most irrigation water never reaches the plant: it drains below the roots or evaporates from the surface. Hydrogel placed in the root zone catches part of that water and releases it back to the roots as the soil dries.
The benefit is largest where water is scarce or irregular — rainfed farms, light soils, summer crops and drip-irrigated orchards in Maharashtra's drought-prone districts.

Methods and topics
- Drip irrigation & root-zone application
- Place hydrogel in the wetting zone under each dripper, 10–20 cm deep, so the granules see water every cycle.
- Nurseries, seedlings & transplanting
- Blend into potting mix or use as a root dip to reduce transplant shock and early mortality.
- Field crops & vegetables
- Apply with basal fertiliser in the furrow or bed at sowing, then irrigate.
