Overview
Starch-grafted hydrogels attach absorbent polyacrylate chains to a natural starch backbone. The starch portion is biodegradable, so these products break down faster in soil than fully synthetic hydrogels.
That faster breakdown is the trade-off: field life is usually shorter, and absorption can be lower. Biodegradation claims depend on the exact composition and test method, so Sarovar shares composition and test evidence on request rather than as a blanket claim.
Key points
- Bio-based starch backbone
- Faster breakdown in soil than fully synthetic SAP
- Composition and biodegradation evidence on request
- Custom development for institutional and export buyers

Indicative values for this polymer class. The Technical Data Sheet for your grade and the Certificate of Analysis for your batch take precedence.
Compare with other productsApplications
- Short-cycle crops
- Seasonal crops where fast breakdown after harvest is preferred.
- Sustainability-led projects
- Institutional and CSR plantations with bio-based material requirements.
- Seed coatings & nurseries
- Germination and seedling-establishment uses (grade-dependent).
How to use it
- 1Place close to the roots and irrigate after application, as with synthetic hydrogel.
- 2Expect to re-apply more often than with potassium polyacrylate.
- 3Ask for the biodegradation test method and results that apply to your grade.
Good to know
- Lower longevity is the price of faster breakdown.
- Absorption varies more between batches of natural raw material; check the CoA.
