Overview
Sodium polyacrylate is the workhorse super absorbent polymer for hygiene products and industrial liquid management. It offers the highest free-swell capacity of the common SAP chemistries.
Grade selection depends on the job: diapers and sanitary products need high retention under load; solidification needs fast gelling and stable gel; packaging absorbents need dust-free particles. It is not recommended for repeated soil application because it adds sodium.
Key points
- High free-swell and centrifuge retention capacity
- Grades for absorption under load and fast gelling
- Fine powder or granules for different dosing equipment
- Not intended for repeated agricultural soil use

Indicative values for this polymer class. The Technical Data Sheet for your grade and the Certificate of Analysis for your batch take precedence.
Compare with other productsApplications
- Hygiene products
- Absorbent cores for baby diapers, adult incontinence products and sanitary pads.
- Liquid solidification
- Solidifying aqueous industrial and medical liquid waste for safer handling.
- Absorbent pads
- Food-tray and packaging absorbent pads where the polymer is enclosed.
- Cable & construction
- Water-blocking tapes and compounds (grade-dependent).
How to use it
- 1Choose the grade by the property that matters in your product: CRC, AUL, gelling speed or particle size.
- 2Dose with dust control; fine powder can irritate airways.
- 3Request an SDS before first handling and a CoA with every batch.
Good to know
- Adds sodium to soil — use potassium polyacrylate for agriculture.
- Absorption falls sharply in brines and multivalent-ion solutions.
